Center for Research and Training
East West University

The Center for Research and Training East West University (CRTEWU) formally debuted in October 2004, however, it started its activities two years later after the formulation and adaptation of its charter by the East West University Board of Trustees (BoT) in 2006. It was established to promote academic and applied research for the creation and dissemination of new knowledge.

During the last decade (2007- June 2024), the Board of Trustees has allocated about Taka Fifty million to CRTEWU to support faculty research and training, publish research reports and journals, and sponsor seminars and workshops. CRTEWU established itself as the hub of the creation and dissemination of new knowledge by equipping the faculty to meet the challenges of the modern era's research and training needs.

New insights generated through research is necessary to meet the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution by facilitating knowledge-sharing. New knowledge will empirically inform policy dialogue on strengthening equitable and sustainable growth strategies, and contribute towards achieving the Social Development Goals (SDGs). Engaging in cutting-edge research will also improve the University's image and ranking.

History

The Center for Research and Training East West University (CRTEWU) promotes academic and applied research to create and disseminate new knowledge. Though it is a research entity in character, it performs diverse activities to achieve its objectives. This center is dedicated to developing the research abilities of faculty members of East West University (EWU) by continually motivating and supporting them to undertake research and publish scholarly papers. It provides financial support to faculty members to conduct research. Such grants are aimed at nurturing and sustaining a vibrant research community at EWU by engaging academics and researchers from all faculties/fields.

The Center organizes international/national conferences, seminars, symposiums, and workshops to facilitate knowledge dissemination and cross-fertilisation. To share research results with academia, researchers and policymakers, CRTEWU publishes two academic journals in the fields of humanities and social sciences: business, and economics. The Center also designs and organizes short-term training programs on research methodology to enhance the research capabilities/skills of young professionals working in universities, academic institutions, government, and non-government organizations. In the last fifteen years (2007- 2022), CRTEWU allocated approximately BDT 42 million to support faculty research and training, publications of research reports and journals, and to sponsor conferences, seminars and workshops.
